After years of living away from my beloved Washington state, I finally got the opportunity to move back in July of 2008. Of all the things I missed dearly and was excited to return to, the oddest thing stands out to write about.

If you’ve lived here any amount of time you’re probably familiar with Dick’s Drive In. All obvious jokes aside, Dick’s is a fantastic place to get a good burger, an order of fries and a milkshake.

While there are five locations of this particular eatery, my favorite to go to is the capital hill location, on Broadway. If you’ve been you’re aware that it’s located in a, well… colorful part of town where you’re just as likely to run into the occasional drunken partier as to be hit up for change from the homeless, but this writer thinks that it adds to the experience. If this is not your idea of an ideal dining experience I’d recommend another location.

Dick’s has been around for fifty five years and the quality of the food hasn’t changed, Dick Spady, Dick’s founder, has made sure of that. They use no machines when preparing their food, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. You won’t find any cheesy happy meal toys here, or play places so it may not be the best place to take the kids; but if you’re looking for a reasonable priced, fast, and good place to eat I recommend Dick’s Drive In. It’s a Seattle institution worth visiting!
