For lovers of metal, soul, rock, or a combination of the three, it is heartbreaking to learn that Pike Street’s King Cobra will be closing its doors this coming Friday. A tribute to the Kincora— which was shut down along with the Bus Stop, Manray and Pony— the King Cobra was a dynamic platform that allowed artists to share their talents with indulgent fans looking for a good time seven days a week.

The nightclub took over the empty space Sugar left behind last January and has been throwing mind-blowing events ever since. From those hipster ager-ragers to keeping up with the punks, the King Cobra brought together an uncommon assortment of folks united by nothing more than sweet beats. Though poor attendance was cited as the reason behind the venue’s demise, and the nightclub has been facing financial woes since July, the pompadours and amphetamine-fueled dancing that took place on Emerald City Soul Club’s Talcum dance party nights would have you thinking it was an endless party that could perpetually rock on.

Regardless of how big of a fan you were of those flashy LED lights or uncomfortable, white bar stools upstairs, you gotta hand it to the place and the people behind it. For they truly were the movers and the shakers that provided ultra-cool times filled with stellar music, delicious drinks, and a solid dance floor that got you movin’ as if you were on a giant Slip ‘N Slide. Those Capitol Hill wanderers looking to get a late night pint and Field Roast Philly Cheesesteak will surely miss this joint.
