Remember back when Bill Nye was an Almost Live cast member, before he made millions and was nationally known? Here’s a funny sketch starring the Science Guy on Almost Live.

The last bastion of old Ballard, Olsen’s Scandinavian Foods, will close later this summer as its current owners tire of running the store. The store was a neighborhood icon of Ballard and its Scandinavian heritage since the 1960’s, when it was opened by Einar Johnsen. The current owners, the Endresen sisters, have run the store for the last 14 years.

Olsen’s Scandinavian Foods is located in Ballard on NW Market between 22nd and 24th Ave NW. There is currently a 25% off discount sign posted in the window – this may be your last chance to get lingonberry sauce and lefse grills from somewhere beside Ikea, so don’t hesitate to visit soon.

An amusing X-Files send-up about everyone’s favorite Scandinavian neighborhood by the jokesters at Almost Live.

Ballard’s Sunset Tavern has been holding its Kung Fu Grindhouse Triple Feature for four years, but it still feels like a fresh experience. Eager regulars line up chairs, still sticky with last night’s beer (hopefully that’s what it was), while a guy in an NES sweatshirt conspires with the bartender to develop an appropriately dirty-sounding drink special. Almost Live’s decade old skit on the Ballard Driving Academy portrays a Ballard that’s almost a polar opposite from the large condos and chain restaurants lining Market Street…. Hillarious skit though – “Use the whole road. Weave.”

While the condo takeover was at full swing just a few months ago before the markets crashed, anti-condo graffiti and street art continue to appear throughout the town. Here’s a sampling:
