George Spady Jr, a 31-year-old little league coach in Arlington is accused of using some of his players, including his son and nephew to burglarize an Arlington shop. George admits he had a lapse in judgment, but his family claims the police have it all wrong – according to police, George encouraged the boys to steal things from the shop. The full story from King5.
Should George, who has two prior misdemeanor convictions, be allowed to coach little league ball? Little league players look up to their coach as a role model and an inspiration, and should not have a man of George’s criminal past as their coach. Misdemeanors are minor, but statistically I’m sure many people who go on to commit more serious crimes start with a few minor crimes.
No, it’s not Harold and Kumar 3, but for residents of Snohomish who are fans of the “Halfling’s Leaf” the forced retirement of Dixie the drug dog might be just as good. Dixie may be able to make a case for age discrimination as the police force is likely to retain services of the younger and leaner Kizar, a fugitive sniffing German shepherd. Continue Reading…
It is hard to decide: layoff employees or mandate days off. A lot of people are mad that Snohomish County, in order to recoup its budget shortfalls, made a deal with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), which represents about 1,750 of the county’s 2,500 employees, to shorten its employees’ work week.
And the County is not giving out pay raises – well, of course not. Frankly, I don’t like anything about the situation.
When it comes down to it, though, is it better to have three-fourths time or no time? Some of us will take the reduced paycheck over none any day. Of course, that means we don’t stand in line for unemployment benefits. That is a lot of math to figure out which paycheck would be better. What about health insurance? Using up unemployment benefits in case a layoff does happen? GAH! Too much to figure out.
